Sustainability Consultancy
Your website has a carbon footprint. We measure it, reduce it, and help you prove the results. Real numbers, not greenwash.
What we do
Every time someone loads a web page, energy is used. Servers run. Data travels through cables. Screens light up. That energy often comes from fossil fuels. The result is carbon emissions you cannot see but can measure.
The internet produces around 4% of global CO₂ emissions. That is roughly the same as the airline industry. Most businesses do not know their digital footprint exists, let alone how big it is.
We help you find out. We audit your website, measure its carbon output, and build a plan to cut it. The good news is that lower carbon almost always means faster load times, lower hosting costs, and better search rankings. Green and lean go hand in hand.
Our consultancy is practical, not theoretical. We give you a clear report with numbers and actions. We can carry out the work ourselves or hand the plan to your development team. Either way, you get results you can measure and report on.

The P.E.E.R. Audit
Our P.E.E.R. Audit™ is the starting point for every sustainability engagement. It checks four areas of your digital presence.
Performance
How fast does your site load? We test on real devices and real connections. We measure first paint, full load, and time to interact. We compare your scores to your competitors and to best-practice benchmarks.
Efficiency
How much data does each page transfer? We look at page weight, image sizes, script bundles, and third-party requests. We find the files that add the most weight and the least value. These are your quick wins.
Experience
Is your site easy to use? We check navigation, readability, mobile layout, and accessibility. A site that confuses visitors wastes their time and your energy. Good UX is sustainable UX.
Responsibility
Does your hosting use renewable energy? Do your images and videos respect users' data plans? Do your cookie banners and trackers respect privacy? We check all of this and give you a responsibility score.
The audit takes about one week. You get a written report with scores, benchmarks, and a ranked list of fixes. Most clients see clear savings within 30 days of acting on the report.
Carbon measurement
You cannot cut what you cannot measure. We calculate your site's carbon footprint using accepted methods from the Sustainable Web Design model and the Green Web Foundation.
The calculation looks at four things:
- Data transfer — how much data moves from server to device on each page view.
- Energy intensity — how much electricity that data transfer uses.
- Carbon factor — how clean or dirty that electricity is, based on where your server sits.
- Traffic volume — how many page views your site gets each month.
We combine these to give you a number in grams of CO₂ per page view and a monthly total. We track this over time so you can see the trend. If you make your site lighter, the number goes down. If traffic grows but your pages stay lean, you scale without scaling your emissions at the same rate.
We can also set up ongoing monitoring through our EcoPigs platform. It shows your carbon score, page speed, and hosting status on a live dashboard. You can share this with stakeholders or include it in your sustainability report.
Green hosting
Where your site lives matters. A server powered by coal produces far more carbon than one powered by wind or solar. Switching to a green host is one of the simplest ways to cut your digital footprint.
We help you choose a host that meets three criteria:
- Renewable energy — the data centre runs on 100% renewable electricity, verified by a certificate or direct supply agreement.
- UK or EU location — closer servers mean shorter data journeys. That cuts latency and energy use.
- Strong uptime — green does not mean slow. We only recommend hosts with 99.9%+ uptime and fast support.
If moving host feels risky, we manage the migration for you. We handle DNS, SSL, redirects, and testing. Most migrations cause zero downtime when planned well.
Quick wins
You do not need a full rebuild to make a difference. These changes take days, not weeks, and can cut your carbon output by 30–60%.
- Compress images — convert to WebP or AVIF format. Resize for the screen. Add lazy loading. This alone can halve your page weight.
- Remove unused scripts — audit your JavaScript bundles. Delete plugins, trackers, and widgets you no longer use.
- Enable caching — set proper cache headers so returning visitors load fewer files from the server.
- Self-host fonts — stop calling Google Fonts. Host the files on your own server. Fewer network requests. Better privacy.
- Cut third-party calls — every chat widget, analytics tool, and social embed adds weight. Keep only the ones that earn their place.
- Use system fonts as fallbacks — show text instantly with a system font while your custom font loads. Faster perceived speed.
We can do all of these for you in a single sprint. You see the results within a week.
Long-term strategy
Quick wins get you started. A long-term strategy keeps you on track. We help you build sustainability into your digital operations so it becomes normal, not a one-off project.
Set targets
We help you define clear goals. For example: reduce carbon per page view by 50% within six months. Or: achieve a Lighthouse performance score of 95+ across all pages. Targets give your team something to aim for and measure against.
Build internal skills
We run workshops for your developers, designers, and content editors. We teach them how to make sustainable choices in their daily work. Smaller images. Simpler layouts. Fewer scripts. These habits stick long after our engagement ends.
Report and communicate
We help you write the digital section of your sustainability report. We provide the data. We explain the methods. We make sure the numbers are accurate and the language is clear. If you are working towards B Corp, ISO 14001, or Net Zero, we can align your digital targets with those frameworks.
Review each quarter
We check in every three months. We look at the data. We compare it to your targets. We adjust the plan if something has changed. This keeps you moving forward without drifting off course.

Common questions
Is digital carbon really significant?
Yes. If the internet were a country, it would rank as the fourth largest emitter in the world. Your single website may seem small, but multiply it by thousands of page views each month and the numbers add up. A site with 10,000 monthly views and 2 g of CO₂ per view produces 240 kg of carbon a year. That is the same as driving 600 miles in a petrol car. Small changes to your site make a real difference at scale.
Will cutting carbon make my site look worse?
No. Sustainable design is not about removing features or making things plain. It is about being smarter with the resources you use. A compressed image looks the same as an uncompressed one. A well-structured page feels faster and cleaner. Most users will not notice any change except that your site loads quicker. That is a better experience, not a worse one.
